Natural Cures for Anxiety

Anxiety is something that happens to a lot of people.  We all worry about things, but sometimes those worries are stronger than normal and this can cause panic attacks.  Prescription medicines have a lot of side effects that can be even worse than the anxiety itself.  So why not try some thing a little more natural before trying those prescription medicines…Different things like homeopathy, acupressure and even food can help ease the anxiety.

  1. Scents like lavender and geranium help calm nerves.  Mix equal parts of these oils together in a small bottle.  When you feel the need for a little calming, then you can either put about 50 drops of the mixture in a diffuser or with an aroma lamp.  You can add about 6 drops to a hot bath or mixwith a carrier oil (these can be found in health food stores and are usually almond or olive oil)
  2. Cutting back on caffeine, sugar and alcohol can help lessen your anxiety.  If you are finding that you are suffering from anxiety a lot, you might want to cut out these things all together.
  3. You can also try to imagine a relaxing day on the beach.  Close your eyes and listen for the waves.  Or picture a blank chalk board and with your eyes closed, picture yourself drawing flowers or something else that will calm you.
  4. Listen to music.  You want something with a slow, steady beat.  Something that will help slow your heart beat and calm you.  You can also sing something like Mary Had A Little Lamb, at a slow, steady pace.
  5. Taking 750 miligrams of GABA after each meal can also help your anxiety.  GABA stands for gamma-aminobutyric acid and can be found in most health food stores.
  6. Practicing Yoga can also help calm your anxiety.  Learning to breathe and relax with meditation will help you keep panic attacks at bay.
  7. An old wives tale says drinking warm milk before bed will calm you and help you sleep.  Believe it or not, this is true.
  8. Writing in a journal can also help calm you.  Writing down your fears or writing about a happy memory can help.

So there you have it.  I hope you find a calming way to cure your anxiety.
