Getting Rid of Blisters
Blisters are not fun. Depending on where they are and how big they are, will depend on exactly how sore they will get. There are a few things you can do to heal them and/or prevent them…Let’s talk about healing them. The biggest thing you want to do is prevent infection (if you pop the blister) and/or keeping things moist until it heals:
- Aloe Vera will help soothe the burn that can come with a blister. Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel is one of the best gels to use for blisters.
- Preparation H can help soothe the inflammation. Put a dab on your blister to lubricate it.
- Petroleum Jelly will help lubricate the skin and prevent the skin around the blister from drying out and becoming painful.
- Calendula (Calendula officinalis) ointment can be applied to blisters, burns, cuts & scrapes, sunburns, frostbite and even helps with diaper rash. Calendula encourages healing, kills bacteria and helps numb the area.
To prevent a blister:
- If you have an area that continues to get blisters, try this little trick. Apply wet tea bags to the area (before you get a blister) twice a day. This will help toughen the skin in that area which will prevent blisters.
- Make sure your shoes fit properly. If they are rubbing in certain areas, you can keep that area moisturized with Petroleum Jelly or cover it with a band-aid.
It is your choice as to popping or not popping a blister. If you choose to pop, make sure you sterilize the needle, etc that you use. Also, make sure you leave the blister skin alone. Once you drain your blister, you don’t want to remove the skin. This skin will help protect the area underneath as it heals. Make sure you keep the area clean, and clean it often.
