Cleaning with Vinegar

Vinegar is inexpensive and will clean a lot of things.  And once vinegar dries, you won’t smell it, unlike those harmful chemicals that linger for hours from store bought cleaners. So what types of things can you clean with vinegar?

  1. Add a couple drops of white vinegar to your dishwater when washing your dishes.  It will cut grease even on crystal.
  2. When washing your clothes, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to the final rinse cycle.  This will eave your clothes soft and will keep lint from sticking to your clothes.
  3. Vinegar will also keep bugs from biting you when you are outside.  Just put some vinegar on any exposed skin using a cotton ball.  Bugs hate the smell and taste, which for them lasts long after it dries and you can’t smell it.
  4. Pet urine is hard to clean and even harder to get rid of the smell.  But if you put 1/4 cup white vinegar and 3/4 cups water in a spray bottle and spray where your pet has done his business it will neutralize the odor.   This can also be used as a preventative measure.  Spray your carpet with this mixture about once a week and it should prevent your pet from using the bathroom on your carpet.   Once dry, you won’t smell it, but your pet still will.  Make sure you test a small spot of your carpet before spraying this mixture on it.
  5. You  can make a paste using white vinegar and baking soda that will clean stainless steel sinks and appliances.  When you mix these two ingredients together it will create a foam, this just lets you know the two products are ready to clean.
  6. Air fresheners are expensive, so why not create your own.  Mix 1 teaspoon baking soda and 1 Tablespoon white vinegar with 2 cups water in a spray bottle.  Shake to mix.  If it foams up, wait for the foam to go away before using it.
  7. Straight vinegar sprayed on the underarms of clothes and allowed to soak for 15 to 30 minutes will not only deodorize but will also help keep stains from appearing in the underarm section of your shirts.
