Flatulence – A Problem with Gas?

Everybody has it at one time or another, but it is something we try to hide and pray no smell follows us around.  What is it?  Flatulence, Gas, Cutting the Cheese, letting a stinker…whatever, you and your family want to call it, it happens to us all, but here are some simple natural remedies that will help keep your little secret…Did you know there was reason restaurants give you a mint after your meal?  That mint will help prevent flatulence.  Mint has been known for soothing tummies for ages.  So restaurants give you mints to keep your tummy soothed because they want your repeat business and if you associate ‘gas’ with that restaurant, you might not come back.

No mints?  Try chewing some spearmint gum.  The chewing motion helps release the air in your tummy which will help keep you from having flatulence.

And here’s a trick if you are making beans.  Add one Tablespoon of baking soda to our beans as they cook.  The baking soda will help neutralize the gas in the beans, so those gases aren’t passed along to you.

Or you can add 3 teaspoons of white vinegar to the water you have your beans soaking in.  Make sure you let this sit overnight.  The acetic acid in vinegar balances the sugars in the beans.  These sugars are known to bring on the ‘gas’ you get after eating the beans, so soaking them will get rid of some of those sugar gases.

Give your pinto beans a sweet taste by adding one can of coke to them while they are cooking.  The coke will neutralize the gas.
