Gout and what to do for it

Gout can be very painful and it usually makes for a very painful big toe.  For some reason, people who get gout tend to have a lot of pain in the big toe…Gout is usually caused when your diet has high levels of purines,  the kidneys can’t filter the uric acid from the blood…and sometimes this means you will get gout…A lot of people have luck with cherries.  It doesn’t seem to matter if they are sweet or sour.  Real or in supplement form.  Depending on how bad your gout is, you can eat a dozen cherries a day or up to 1/2 pound of cherries a day.  Or you can take 1 Tablespoon of cherry concentrate a day.

You can also make a paste using powdered activated charcoal (1/2 cup), about 3 to 4 Tablespoons ground flaxseed (you may have to ground the flaxseed in the blender) and then add hot water…enough to make a paste.  Cover the toe (or other affected area) with the paste and then cover with cloth or bandage to hold paste in place.  Repeat every 4 hours or leave on overnight.

If you don’t want to do the paste, then how about a foot soak?  Take the powdered activated charcoal and mix with warm water (make as hot as you can stand it).  Soak for 30 to 60 minutes or until water starts getting too cool.  Make sure you don’t use any good clothes, basin, towels, etc.  Charcoal will stain.

Other ways to prevent Gout is to watch what you eat.  Foods such as asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, lentels, shellfish, spinach, whole grain cereals and breads and yeast.  You also don’t want to drink beer.  Beer tends to bring on Gout quite frequently.

Make sure you call your doctor if you get a sudden or intense pain.  You do not want Gout to go untreated because it could cause pain and joint damage.

So remember, by avoiding certain foods, not drinking beer, getting enough sleep and controling your blood pressure, you can reduce your chances of get Gout.
