Ice Pack – A Homemade Cure

An ice pack can be any number of things from a bag of ice to a bag of frozen peas, but here are some simple tips to making some different kinds of ice packs…Kids love to have their own things, so why not let them choose what color they want their ice pack to be.  Prepare your favorite flavor or color of  Jell-O  as you normally would and let cool just enough to pour into freezer bags, filling only about three-quarters full.  Zip up the freezer bags and put in the freezer.  You can use this over and over again.  Just keep refreezing after each uss.

Unpopped regular popcorn can be put into a freezer bag and placed in the freezer.  They will hold the coolness longer and can be used over and over again.  The best part is, they will ‘hug’ the body part so that cold is getting to all the sore spots.

You can also pour 1/2 cup Vodka and 1/2 cup water into a freezer bag, then add a couple drops of food coloring so that each family member has their own.  Vodka (actually alchohol) won’t freeze, but the water will.  This gives you a nice slushy ice pack that will fit around most injured body parts and it can be reused.  Just refreeze after each use.
