Menstrual Cramps – Natural and Safe Cures

Menstrual Cramps can stop you in your tracks.  Why do you think there are so many cramp medicines in stores.  But why not look around your house and see if some of these tips can help before you take that trip to the store.

  • Calcium can help lessen the pain cramps cause.  Adding 1 teaspoon of NonFat Dry Milk to your soups, casseroles, pasta dishes, etc. can give you the calcium you need without making you feel like you are going overboard with it.
  • Start drinking some ginger ale a couple days before you know you are about to start your period and continue drinking it throughout your period.  Ginger helps relax your stomach muscles and helps ease cramping.
  • Potassium will help to keep cramps from getting worse.  Try drinking Gatorade during your period to increase the potassium in your body.
  • Soaking in a hot bath with one cup of baking soda and one cup of Epsom Salt will relax  your muscles and stop the cramps from getting worse.
  • While you are on your period try taking 3 regular Tums or two extra-strength Tums each day.  This works like the NonFat Dry Milk.  It gives you te calcium you need to help keep the cramping at a minimum.
  • Eating peppermint also helps relieve the pain of menstrual cramps.  Altoids work very well.  At the first sign of cramping, just start chewing on some Altoids.
