Stains – Removing Dye
Let me start by saying, if you let the dye dry you won’t be able to remove it. You might be able to lighten it, but it is there for the long haul if it dries. So these tips are for clean up before it leaves a permanent mark.
Laundry:
- You will want to soak colorfast fabrics in a detergent that has enzymes. Soak all day or overnight and then wash like normal.
- You will want to soak non-colorfast fabrics in a solution of 1 cup hydrogen peroxide and 6 cups cold water. Soak for about 15 minutes and then wash as normal.
- If you didn’t see that red t-shirt that was mixed in with your whites and now you have red streaks on everything! First, find that red t-shirt and get it out of the washing machine. Then re-wash your laundry with Carbona. Do NOT dry your whites until after you have run them through the washer again. Drying them will heat set that red stain and then it is there for good.
Carpets:
- You will want to mix ammonia with denatured alcohol together. Pat the dye with a clean white cloth dipped in this mixture. Do NOT rub. You might need to repeat this step for several minutes to make sure you get the stain out.
- You will want to us a carpet shampooer to clean the area once you are done dabbing it with the ammonia mixture.
