Superfoods

Do you know what Superfoods are?  Superfoods are foods that have the essential nutrients and energy your body needs.  They boost your immune system, help your heart, protect against cancer, help lose weight and much more.

So how can you start using these Superfoods today?  Easy and here’s how…

We all know most of the foods that are bad for us…foods high in fat, sugars, salts, etc., so you have to cut back on these foods.  I don’t mean you have to give them up completely, but you do need to cut back.

Replace regular soda with diet (caffeine-free) soda or water.  Using products like Crystal light will help you drink water that is flavored, but won’t add extra sugars, etc.

Cut back on candy, fast food and other sugar filled items.  If you swap out these types of food for fruit (which are naturally sweet) will keep you from missing the ‘bad’ sugars.

Remember these words:  partially hydrogenated oil and now get them out of your diet!  Read the backs of packaged foods and if you see these words on the list of ingredients, put it back, DON’T buy it!

Eat seafood, skinless chicken, pork and if you have to eat red meats, then make sure you are eating lean beef.  There are a lot of different ways to make these foods that don’t include deep frying them.  Marinating the meat and broiling and/or grilling it will give it lots of flavor without the grease.

Replace margarine with olive oil.  They are now starting to make some margarine with olive oil, flax oil or canola oil.  If you can find these types of margarine in your area, check the back to make sure they don’t contain partially hydrogenated oils.  If they don’t then you can use them.

Watch that sodium/salt intake.  Again, read the backs of the food you want to buy and see what the numbers say.  Look for food that is low sodium and when it comes to vegetables and fruit, but fresh or frozen.  This way you know you are getting the naturally low sodium foods.

So check my next post and see what foods you can substitute with to bring these Superfoods into your diet for a healthier diet.
